#Croatia placing emphasis on gender balance and 'fair rotation' (in addition to the Statute-mandated expertise) in its campaign to have Prof Seršić elected to the #ICJ in the autumn. https://twitter.com/AndrejaMetelko/status/1273642067441451009
With the fate of Judge Sebutinde's place on the Court unclear in light of the controversy over the African Group candidate (p. 112 on PDF here: https://au.int/sites/default/files/decisions/38180-assembly_au_dec_749-795_xxxiii_e.pdf), there is a chance the number of women on the #ICJ could fall to 2. Either way, 3 is not impressive either.
'Fair rotation' may be a sign that Judge Tomka will be a candidate for the Eastern European Group 'seat', and for a third term on the #ICJ. Candidacies for third terms are exceptional, but are hardly unprecedented.
While there has never been a Croatian member of the #ICJ, the only Yugoslavian member, Judge Zoričić, was from Croatia. However he was judge during the years 1946-1958. (There were two Yugoslavian deputy-judges on the #PCIJ, but from what I can tell, neither were Croatian.)
