We’re now 6 months on from the election campaign that was partially defined by the phrase and rhetoric of “this wouldn’t happen to Black people”.

Do I need to state what’s happened to Black people since?
The government hired a eugenicist that believes Black people are inherently less intelligent and didn’t denounce him when asked to.

The Labour Report leaked, detailing rampant anti-Blackness and bullying towards Black MPs. The new Labour leader has been reluctant to address it.
The health crisis of Coronavirus has revealed stark inequalities and disproportionate deaths in Black communities. A report detailing how structural racism was a factor was withheld as the Tory government felt it would spark “social unrest”. That part was redacted when released.
The murder of George Floyd in America has sparked a new wave of protests in Britain. Rappers have had the threat of being recalled to prison for merely supporting Black Lives Matter - emblematic of the Tories’ ‘law and order’ approach which disproportionately impacts Black ppl.
The Windrush report came out and barely made a splash, as it was buried underneath coronavirus news. People are still being deported. Victims have not been payed compensation. Those that have have recieved paltry amounts.
Every single article detailing inequalities with tangible statistics is met with a barrage of racist abuse, ridicule and even glee. Not to mention Dave being mass reported to Ofcom for saying what we all know on live TV; this country and its prime minister is racist.
Not one of the “this wouldn’t happen to Black people” legion has come out and acknowledged their waywardness. We were gaslit for the best part of two years. It shows that anti-Blackness is so deeply embedded in the structure of society that for them; this is normalcy.
And here’s the main point: being antiracist requires pushing back on the state apparatuses that produce racist results. Not pinning racism to one singular figure and then going quiet / baking banana bread when that person flops and fades into the background. It’s a 24/7 job.
Racism can’t be boiled down to a party political prism. It can’t be boiled down to factional squabbles. Either be about it or don’t be about it. Anti-Blackness is woven in society through policy - it’s not merely a case of ‘things that wouldn’t be said/done to us’ by politicians.
And on that note, we have a whole sitting MP that has said the word nigger. That’s not even mentioning things that Boris has said. Everything they say and do to you, best believe they say and do to us. The deportations and police brutality etc on top are real sour cherries.
So next time, take your head out of your ass and cape for your own causes without invoking us as a rhetorical device every 12 mins.

Fin.
