Given we are coming to an end of #PRIDE2020 I thought I would share a bit of my story. In April 2019, I told @JoshAaronMennie that I was gay. He was the first person I said those words too and it was a really difficult experience.
After that, I told a few more people, mainly to gauge their opinion, then stopped. I had a lot of internal stigma to overcome. I hated feeling like less of a man because of my sexuality.
This confused me a lot because I never felt that any other gay man was any less of a man, just me. It just wasn’t how I saw my life panning out.
Now, 14 months later, I won’t lie, I do still have a few days where I feel down because of my sexuality but they are becoming rarer and rarer. Even writing this thread, I am not embarrassed to admit that I am a gay man.
I know there has been a lot going on in the world right now but I just didn’t want to forget Pride. It is so important that we stand together against the hatred and intolerance we see towards the LGBT community. If it isn’t Trump trying to allow
LGBT people to be discriminated against, it is JK Rowling trying to deny the existence of the Trans community. Enough is enough. No one is equal until we are all equal.
