Yer typical city centre bus runs on a 4.5 litre diesel, theres more than enough space in the engine bay to put in a Fuel cell engine - retrofit, and it costing less than a new one.

The same goes with Cabs, and trucks.

Yer Routemaster costs 350k, a retrofit would be under 1/3rd
single decker, 250k.

But the real bonus in retrofitting, older buses, which seem the norm in todays cities and them 10 years or older ARE its largest polluters, as are cabs, and lorries gone.

The biggest benefit - a new industry based on fuel cells, hydrogen, and retrofitting
Scotland could and should go that route as a nationalised industry, well if independent. IT could do it, we have the talent, the tech, the unused spaces laying empty.

What we lack is the ability, the normal powers of statehood denied us.
Our Potential and untapped eco energy as an independent state has few equals, tidal, wind, hyrdo power.

Thus when surplus is normal, nighttime, thats energy being wasted - that for over a third of the day could be being stored as hydrogen, removing nuclear from our country.
Hydrogen that can also be used as a gas in the home, further reducing north sea gas use. Gas which also can be converted to hydrogen ironically.

Add to that legislation for any new homes, buildings, having whole roof photovoltaic solar - and you have the beginning of STATE owned
