I'm going to need all the people wildly praising Jagmeet Singh to speak up just as much against this shit and the 1980's-1990's Sikh genocide. personal beliefs aside, supporting Sikh separatism does not automatically make someone a terrorist.

Short thread:
For background on the 1980's-1990's Sikh genocide, read this thread and go through the #neverforget1984 tag. Also google Operations Shudikaran (rape TW) and Woodrose.

Also several demands of the Anandpur Sahib Resolution were about ending casteism. https://twitter.com/NankiKaur_/status/1267597061995876352
After Operation Bluestar & the Oct-Nov pogroms, Sikhs started talking about separating from India and creating a new nation called Khalistan. Punjab Police carried out a genocide against Sikhs until the 1990's, often rounding up anyone with a turban or dastaar and killing them.
Some Sikhs fought back against the Punjab police. The Indian government planted double agents and, as with every conflict, some people do bad things.

The vast majority of Sikhs condemn the Air India bombing.

Also Jagmeet Singh was six when the Air India bombing occurred.
About 30 years later, "Khalistani" has become a buzzword for "any Sikh doing or saying something I don't like." You'll see this in the replies to the thread (which I will likely be muting).

My personal beliefs aside, supporting Sikh separatism does not make someone a terrorist.
Anti Sikh sentiment is a catch all academic word coined in the 1980's for any violence and discrimination against Sikhs.

It is anti Sikh sentiment to throw "Khalistani" at a Sikh you don't like.

It is anti Sikh sentiment to demand Jagmeet Singh apologize for Air India 182.
It is anti Sikh sentiment to call Jagmeet Singh a terrorist for talking & attending events about the 1980's-1990's Sikh genocide.

It is anti Sikh sentiment to strip the context of the 1980's-1990's genocide from Sikh separatism & Khalistan to condemn the movement and people.
It is anti Sikh sentiment to praise Jagmeet Singh's politics while ignoring the violent anti Sikh sentiment he faces for being a visible Sikh that speaks about the 1980's-1990's genocide and other violent oppression we face.
