Also if you believe racism is not a problem in Canada, you are delusional.

The last residential school, which murdered, raped, and traumatized over a thousand Indigenous children was not closed until 1996 - 2 YEARS before I was born.

During WWII, Japanese-Canadians (ie. including LEGAL Canadian citizens) were forced into internment camps following the bombing of Pearl Harbour. Their neighbourhoods were completely destroyed and sold off, so they had nothing to return to.

Black people in Toronto are 20x more likely to be killed in police shootings than white people.

Between 2013-2017, Black people made up 36% of police shooting cases, 61% of police use-of-force cases involved civilian death, and 70% (!!) of fatal police shootings.

In 1923, Chinese people were excluded from immigrating to Canada AT ALL (known today as the Chinese Exclusion Act). This was not overturned until approximately 24 years later. Thereby preventing Chinese families from reuniting and/or economic growth in their communities.

Just today, in 2020, we only have one POC party leader in the House of Commons (NDP's @theJagmeetSingh), who was kicked out of the House today for calling out racism (ie, calling a racist a racist) when putting forth a movement to investigate systemic racism in the RCMP.

In summary: Canada has a LONG history of systemic racism against BIPOC and their communities. So please stop deluding yourself that we are somehow immune to the abhorrent racism that's happening in the USA right now, and take a good long look at our history.

By continuing to deny the racial inequalities and systemic racism in Canada, we do nothing to fix them.

Call out racism in Canada because THERE IS racism in Canada.
