As a long time fan of their artists,I honestly don’t feel the sincerity here. Especially now knowing that they have not been paying their black collaborators who make the BULK of their hits....it’s just not sitting right with me. https://twitter.com/smtownglobal/status/1273827954548604930
SM specifically was built off of the Motown model and takes so much inspo from blk ppl/culture so where is the respect for the black creatives that have been working with them. I’m just not buying what they have to say as a company, it feels like damage control imo
I honestly need to see some real active change from SM and their management to believe that. One of your artists was JUST on TV like 2 weeks ago with some raggedy looking braids doing a “hip hop” concept. an artist that’s been in the game for 13 YEARS...
There are countless other instances as well and I feel like as one of the companies that has been around the longest AND has been pushing to be “global” for so long, y’all have GOT to do your research better, it’s 2020!!! A little TOO behind on the times and culture.
And not just SM but for ANYYYY company that wants to be “gLoBal” you can’t just label yourself as global without adopting a more global mindset. Research the markets/regions that yall are trying to reach. Understand the people and what’s appropriate. That’s literally your job...
A lot of these companies want all of the perks that come with the “global” title without putting in any of the work of actually knowing what that means. It don’t work like that. Please educate yourselves
