Listening to 'A Silent Voice" OST on the discord voice channel is not recommended at night. Anyways I'm going to write a thread on why I love this film so much...
anyways, to start with easy and painless, I would do anything and everything to protect shouko and her little sister. While it was hard to watch her getting judged just from being clinically deaf, I blame the teachers for not stepping in and help at all.
Yes I did despise and hate everyone who made fun of her in that middle school, even Shoya included. It was great that he saw his faults and he wanted to change and apologize to shouko for what he did as a kid. But what breaks my heart is that shouko is so forgiving of things.
I gotta give props to Shoya for learning Japanese sign language so he could communicate with her throughout the film, he did try his best after all to let go of his past but he couldn't all so easy by himself. Yes Shouko's mom hated him but who wouldn't given the circumstances.
so why doesn't shouko's mother ever smile in the film? well as explained in the manga, after shouko was diagnosed as being clinically dumb her father decided to divorce her mother (men ain't shit) because they blamed the mother for the reason that shouko is clinically deaf---
her father and her grandparents (from the dad side) decided to abandon her, pieces of shit of human being. The reason why her mother doesn't cry because she doesn't want to be weak anymore so she doesn't show any emotions in front of her two kids. She works at a hospital btw.
well I haven't gotten to explaining why I love this film yet exactly. But that Balcony scene in the film is what sealed the deal for me on this. The way that she wanted to do that so she can no longer be a burden to anyone just breaks my soul / heart (like I have any left LMAO)
I completely forgive what Shoya did to Shouko as a kid, but I'm not excusing on what he and the others did and it isn't justified, this film is more of a learning experience that traumatic experiences from a young age can affect a person growing up.
the little time that shouko and shoya spend together really tells me that a person can really change if they really want change for the better as demonstrated by shoya. I still would protect both Shouko and Shoya after finishing the manga and the film. They're both precious
As much as I don't like Ueno and Kawaii, I caa respect Ueno at least she's honest and straight up told Shouko that she doesn't like her and that Shouko broke up the friendship the other people had which still doesn't make any sense to me.
The film does one thing better than the manga which is that the film showed that Ueno started to learn sigh language towards the end of the film which never happened in the manga. I think that was a nice way to end it off. But this whole thing with Shouko and Shoya hits home..

This film means a lot to me as you can see lol, but yeah you should def consider watching it if you haven't. Trigger warning tho: if you've experienced bullying on any sort of level, this film might be too much for you or it might hit home for you, so ease your way into it.
To tell you a story: I watched this film (December of 2019) at 10 pm at night (highly don't watch it at night) cried a lot after finishing the film. But this film prompted me to get the box set of the manga and I finished all 7 volumes in 2 days and yes I cried while reading it
I can still feel my heart aching when she runs to see if Shoya has woken up. It would've broken my heart if shoya never woke up and I can't have that on my consciousness. When shoya and shouko were on on their knees and holding hands, I legit wanted to disappear into thin air LOL
That's everything I've got to say about my all time favorite film, no other anime film will ever top it for me except for pancreas maybe. But the manga has a happy ending as the film (even though they differ). Shoya holds Shouko's wrist and open the door at the end of the manga..
Here’s some snapchat on the final few panels on the manga. So you can use your self-interpretation skills and just imagine they get married and live happily ever after cause I just want Shouko to be happy 💙💚💛🧡❤️💜🖤
