Nearly 300 years ago the French political thinker Montesquieu knew that America would be in trouble in 2020. How can I say this? Let's look at him first.

He developed an idea that society should separate powers into three branches. Sound familiar?
That's why we have Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches.

More than that, he had studied every western government that had ever existed and put them into three general categories.

1) some type of Dictatorship
2) some type of Monarchy
3) some type of Democracy
A DICTATOR stays in power through fear mostly. They have group X watch group Y, Y watches Z, and Z watches X. Rock the boat and you're dead. Don't follow orders and you're dead. Ask questions ... you can see the pattern. Courage is needed to topple a dictator.
A MONARCHY needs a heightened level of honor and chivalry to survive. Lords and Ladies, Knights of great valor, and all of that stuff is very important to keep a monarchy function. When there is a loss of honor to the monarchy the instability will lead to collapse.
A DEMOCRACY can only survive with a strong and well-developed sense of shared civic virtue, this requires a very educated and enlightened sense of responsibility, obedience, and respect for the law.
When public morality fades, and the respect for law ends, the democracy will fail as there's no longer any virtue for the laws and ideals of the society to be based.
*** Ask yourself these questions. ***

Why do you stop at a red light? Why do you obey the speed limit? Why do you pay taxes?

Maybe those are easy questions. How about these: Why do you not smash in a store window and take whatever you want?
Why do you not shoot someone randomly in the street for no reason? Why do you value human life?

Certainly, not everyone in society wanted it to succeed. If a small faction, perhaps 2 or 3% no longer desires to be virtuous the other 97% have nothing to worry about.
But what happens if we get to a point in which 51% of the population votes to dissolve and abolish law and law enforcement?

Certainly, the balance of power will kick in, but if a lack of virtue is pervasive enough, all of the branches of the government will become corrupted.
Friends, we're right on the verge of seeing our democracy fail. It's right in front of us. We have officials that no longer obey law, in fact, they seem to seek out & punish those who obey the law. Their virtue is wrapped up in themselves and a non-democratic ideology.
We have enough people in our society who want to dissolve government and elect people who will make certain that happens.

The election of 2020 is not just about electing someone who wants lower taxation vs. higher taxation. A balanced budget or more debt spending.
This next election is asking the question "do we want to continue on as a nation"?

Do we want the United States of America to continue to exist?
