Everyday on here, people screw up or they grow past their earlier views and they successfully move on. The ones who get mired in a backlash are the ones who don't actually want to apologize (but want credit for it), who get defensive and retrench.

And the grifters who get their daily bread warning about "wokescolds" and "critical culture" or whatever the next bogeyman is point to those high profile examples and say, "See? The cultural marxists never forgive. They take your apology as weakness and attack twice as hard."

If you listen to the people who have confabulated a monolithic culture of "wokescolds" from a bunch of disparate discourse and unrelated interactions, you will see the monster everywhere. Anywhere there is a disagreement, anywhere criticism is offered. Any open discussion.

And once they have trained you to see it, and fear it, and pick fights with it... then you're their sucker for life, if you never take a step back. Because your tendency to alternately cower in fear of and pick fights with anyone you identify as part of the "mob" reinforces it.
