The Asian Financial Crisis hit Singapore in 1997. My pa, a Chinese businessman, was one of thousands who lost their jobs (I was only 10 but old enough to see how bad things were).

COVID-19 is the first recession that we as millennials will face. A thread for anyone feeling lost:
Jobs are often tied to our identities. Losing yours to the pandemic will be a dark struggle. It's human and COMPLETELY natural to feel lost (my dad numbed his pain with alcohol).

Companies cut costs. And it's important to remember that whatever they do ISN'T A REFLECTION ON YOU
THE JOB HUNT...

will be a long, tedious and draining process that will drag on for months, at least until the economy picks up (I can testify). So take your time with it and treat each rejection as lesson while you move on to the next opportunity 😊

But press on. Apply to as many jobs as you want but also be patient with yourself: You'll get more out of dedicating time and effort into tailoring a CV and cover letter to a role rather than mass applying using a generic one.
More importantly, REWARD YOURSELF AFTER EACH APPLICATION YOU COMPLETE!

Cos it's no easy feat to put yourself out there while you're not feeling your best or most confident (Great advice from fellow hunter @mayuism)

Have ice cream, watch an extra hour of Netflix. You deserve it
In the mean time, leverage on your contacts. The human effect really does pay off, even if it doesn't bring you directly to where you'd want to be.

Re-connecting with good people landed me decent freelance assignments to keep me busy until I sign my next contract.
And a word of advice from my psychiatrist: To take each day as it comes. Economies are slowly re-opening (although I don't quite agree with this) and life will recover. In the meantime, look out for yourself. My DMs are open if you need advice and a listening ear. x
This thread was inspired by my friends Wei Choon and Ruiming who founded the Woke Salaryman, a great initiative by them to dispense reasonable financial advice and life lessons.
