Over the last few years we’ve really gained ground around what education should be, we’ve stepped away from a tight SATs focus in primary to embracing a broader curriculum.

Sadly we are now at a potential turning point. All the talk of catch-up runs the risk of re-narrowing ...
...the primary curriculum to run hell for leather to get a group of children through an assessment that @NickGibbUK pointed out is purely about measuring schools and has no value for children.

When catch-up is talked about we know it will be tightly focussed...
...on Maths and English. For some children if we’re not careful life will become a living hell of a daily trip down intervention alley so they can “catch-up.”

Education for these children will need to more not less but sadly as long as we march to the drum of SATs...
...I sadly can’t see that this will happen because the systemic pressure will be to great to get them through the pointless tests.

This is an old post...but the gap never was how many extra Maths and English lessons, the gap is much more than that. https://smithsmm.wordpress.com/2018/09/23/comprehension-is-a-long-and-wide-game/">https://smithsmm.wordpress.com/2018/09/2...
