The only people who argue for wage increases for the 21% of people on Awards are @unionsaustralia. The employer lobby argued for wage cuts & freezes. The Fair Work Commission panel has just ruled a 1.75% increase to apply on three different dates...
1 July (frontline essential workers), 1 Nov (construction, manufacturing) and 1 Feb (retail, Hospo, aviation, arts). Contact your union to find out what it means for you.
It was a split decision. The majority of the panel rejected the arguments of the employer lobby that there should be wage cuts. Wage cuts will kill local businesses. Hospo, retail and tourism will only recover if people have money to spend.
Increases for minimum wage workers are one of the best forms of stimulus the economy can get as it circulates back to business because these workers spend what they earn.
Now the Morrison Government will need to do their part by not cutting JobKeeper or JobSeeker. Cutting these payments will take money straight of the economy and from local businesses
