Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is a Black queer woman who is opposed to the removal of Confederate statues and statues of Columbus bc we should not "erase history." She also opposes replacing Columbus Day with Indigenous People's Day & rejected a bill to make Juneteenth a holiday.

Do y'all feel good now about how hard you patted yourselves on the back about getting her elected? As tho her identity was about to run the city? I hope folks have learned something here.

Lori Lightfoot spouts the same nonsense as Trump about how removing racist statues "erases history." White supremacists are confronting people with guns over these statue removals. She is legitimizing the idea that they are defending "history."

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot shot down the Reparations Commission in Chicago & she also rejected an initiative to get cops out of schools. Lightfoot also raised the bridges over the Chicago River to trap protesters on a night of utter brutality on the part of the Chicago police.

I was listening to the scanner that night. Ppl got text alerts about the curfew after 9pm when it was already in effect. The bridges were up & the cops were told at 9:15 that they could start arresting ppl. After mass outcry, the order changed & some ppl were allowed a path out.

I've been organizing in Chicago for a minute and I've seen plenty of police attack protesters. I was at NATO 2012 and took care of people they brutalized. But none of that came close to the violence Lori Lightfoot's cops have perpetrated during these protests w her full support.

Lori Lightfoot did lash out at some cops recently, but it was bc they hid out in Congressman Bobby Rush's office during a heated protest and ate the congressman's popcorn. If they'd been a few blocks away, beating protesters w their colleagues, Lightfoot wouldn't have been mad.

Don't get me wrong, those cops clowning around in Bobby Rush's office were doing a racism, but the racist violence cops were dishing out nearby was a bigger concern for me personally. But Lori Lightfoot has nothing but contempt for protesters who challenge her in any way.
