Hello excuse me while I step on a soapbox but I have been doing a lot of self-reflecting tonight and I just want to reiterate how incredibly IMPORTANT it is to be open to being TAUGHT and EDUCATED and that it’s ok to have made mistakes but you need to hold yourself accountable
And apologize for them and learn from them. This goes for all things. Race, sexual identity, gender identity, etc. etc. We are not perfect but we need to make sure we are LEARNING every day and actively getting better
ESPECIALLY!!!! people like myself who come from small towns and have not been educated on literally anything like this. The last few years have been EYE OPENING for me and I have learned so much just from being on Twitter and interacting with people outside of my hometown
And I just want to say that if I have ever done anything to make anyone feel uncomfortable or that was derogatory, I DEEPLY apologize. Know that it was never out of malicious intent, just ignorance and being uneducated. Let’s all strive to do better.
I know in my high school days I used derogatory terms because I truly had NO CLUE how malicious and harmful they were because I was in a small town where hardly anyone was different from me. I know we all have things from high school we regret but acknowledging them...
Apologizing for them, and learning from them is SO! IMPORTANT! Even in recent years I have absolutely used the wrong pronouns for people or blurted out a slur because my brain is still not 100% trained to do better. And until it is, I HAVE to keep educating myself.
If anyone read this far THANKS, literally no one asked for this but I felt like it was a GREAT night to acknowledge my privilege and apologize for any time I have failed to be respectful or accepting.
