I appreciate #RHAP for openly making space for new & diverse voices.

Minority perspectives in the Big Brother/Reality community have been massively overlooked & undervalued for years.

& Many in this community have encouraged meaningful conversation to try & broaden the scope... https://twitter.com/robcesternino/status/1273711941047836673
The podcast ecosystem Rob has created is really Impressive & I appreciate that he's empowered so many people to use their voices in creative ways.

& as happy as I am to see doors being re-opened for (hopefully) more expansive dialogue, the timing of it is a bit troubling to me.
I mean, Aunt Jemima was retired yesterday...

It's taken a new age of trauma & activism to make people open their eyes & their hearts. That's a tough pill to swallow.

I welcome the discomfort, because change is never painless. I just want real shifts & not a reactionary change.
The conversation about how non-inclusive #RHAP is has been going on for longer than I've been included.

That goes for the talent & the audience.

I hope that any diversification of their team is done in a very intentional & authentic way.

Tokenism is an easy pitfall.
Seeing people on the timeline celebrate them posting this has been so strange to me.

Let's see if they've actually listened & provide a unique space before being loud & proud about it.

I know this is coming from a genuine place- but, Its just so easy to talk & not actually ~do.
Presenting a search for new talent & specifying "diverse" always brings out comments like the one below...

It's a red flag for me. Good Intention is clear, but the execution counts even moreso when you're trying to elevate a questioned situation. https://twitter.com/JonTheHammerHa/status/1273721380991668224?s=19
True diversity is building spaces where any & everyone can have a voice & not feel like they're a visitor.

I hope the people that join this ecosystem are more than just a voice for their specific communities.. I want there to be a big enough change, that the entire vibe shifts.
If that's not what you're going for, then please just keep it like it is.

Diversity is too often performative.. & when we allow ourselves to perform diversity, rather than doing the work to truly understand each other better-- we might as well be campaigning for segregation.
I've had a lot of people send me the link this afternoon & tell me to apply.. so, instead of replying to people individually, I figured the best way was to address my concerns widely.

I hope the people at #RHAP talk to their constituents & really use their resources to expand.
Talk to your people & get real honest dialog about how & what to adjust.

Don't be afraid to have the conversations...Don't walk on eggshells... Don't mask it behind socially expected expectations.

I wanna see you step up & do the real work.
Empower people with real positions & don't just have them come sit in on a conversation for visibility.

& also, do it with care. Ease into it.
Optics are important.

Really care about the seeds you're sowing.
I'm rooting for y'all, @robcesternino!
Excited to watch you grow. 🌱
