Update 6/18: Last night, protestors created a temporary autonomous zone outside Police Commissioner Ted Wheeler’s home, naming it in honor of Patrick Kimmons. The Portland Police Bureau raided the Patrick Kimmons Autonomous Zone around dawn this morning. (1/9)
Two Portland Police Bureau officers murdered Patrick in 2018 a few blocks from where the PKAZ was established. Police arrested one protestor, who we posted bail for in the amount of $250. (2/9)
As protests continue, we're seeing an increase in state repression. Repression is the process of the gov't, both local and federal, attempting to disrupt, destroy, and co-opt orgs, actions, movements, or groups whose goal is to change the status quo in a systematic way. (4/9)
The purpose of repression is to stop our movements from making society-wide change. Ongoing legal support and the development of political legal defense is one way to challenge this type of repression. (5/9)
In the coming days, we will post more about other ways to keep your comrades and yourself safe as you continue to work towards systemic change. If you or somebody you know are contacted by law enforcement (via phone, a door knock, etc), you should not say anything to them. (6/9)
Do NOT lie to any agent of the state. It is a crime to lie and even “I don’t know” can be considered a lie. Your safest bet is to say nothing. If you feel compelled to say anything, say “I will remain silent. I will not answer any questions. I want to talk to a lawyer.” (7/9)
If they say they have a warrant, have them slide it under the door. Look at the warrant and make sure that it is for your house and notice what it says that police can search and take from your home. Once the agents have left, call us at 503-442-0866. (8/9)
Our next defendant orientations are sched for Tues, June 23 at 7PM and Sat, June 27 at noon. These meetings are held online and include a short introduction to being a defendant. Lawyers will be on hand to answer questions. Please email [email protected] for details. (9/9)
