The US Education System, where magnet programs, such as IB, are introduced to low performing schools to raise the school’s rating rather than provide additional resources to those schools in underserved communities.
Been thinking about this a lot. I went to a predominantly black school, in a poor neighborhood, that had one of the most “esteemed” programs (IB). The IB institution taught us an “us vs them” mentality. That we were smarter and better than the students who weren’t in IB.
IB is not accessible. It is classist. It was shameful to leave/fail/get kicked out of the IB program.
IB students are not smarter or better, we’re just privileged.
Y’all, I straight up just talked to someone I knew from highschool. He said “I was in the IB program just to end up being a server at outback.” Shit is wild.
