I’m going to say something.
You may not like it.
I don’t care.

If you want our divided country to unite, scolding those who try to make an effort with ‘too little too late’ type comments=part of the problem.

Give credit where credit is due.
Less talk, more listen.
This does not mean praise them or
excuse what they’ve done in the past.

If they legitimately are trying to make an effort to do the right thing, bashing them will turn them away.

Say nothing or even better: a simple ‘thank you’ might encourage them to do it more often.
I am NOT talking about John Bolton.
His circumstances are different & he stands to make money. No.

I’m talking about others as well as people in everyday life.
I want you to think about something else.

Every time any of us—regardless of your political leaning—puts a political opposite down when they’re trying to make an effort, you giving Putin what he wants.

Sound nuts? It’s not.
He wants us to hate each other.
Stop helping him.
People have the ability to change.

If you were put down whenever you tried to make an effort—something that might not be easy for you—would you continue to speak out & move forward? Or would you retreat?

Positive reinforcement.
You don’t need to endorse views you disagree with but you have the ability to connect on a basic human level with others.

Find common ground.
When you attempt a conversation with someone you never agree with, maybe try not heading straight for topics you know will cause a defensive reaction.
