1/ My good friends and former next-door neighbors came over last night and spoke to my family about his experiences growing up as a black kid in Utah and even now as a black man. It was VERY insightful! A few things that stood out to me:
2/ KNEELING FOR THE ANTHEM:
Has NOTHING to do with the anthem OR the flag and has EVERYTHING to do with police brutality against blacks. Unfortunately, the far-right "hijacked" the narrative & made it about the flag/anthem when it started out as a call against police brutality.
3/ 2. THEY'RE NOT AFRICAN-AMERICANS:
Black people know you're just being PC when you say African-American. Just refer to them as "black man" or "black woman", etc if you don't know first names.
4/ POLICE BIAS EXISTS:
To this day, anytime K sees a police officer, his heart kind of skips a beat and he's ALWAYS on the lookout. Only about a year ago, a cop pulled him over because "it's getting dark and your headlights aren't on." 🙄
5/ J was with him and the cop asked her if she was ok. 🙄🙄 That's something white people never have to worry about.

CONSCIOUS BIAS vs UNCONSCIOUS BIAS:
People who make racist comments or show racist behaviors out in the open vs people who show bias 'behind closed doors".
6/ So much more was said but those 4 things stood out to me. Any time you get a chance to sit down with a black person, do it! You'll be enlightened! /end
