Short thread: gents, I am going to kindly ask you guys to stop asking public-facing Christian women what they do about 1 Tim 2. I don’t know about other women on here, but people ask me this all. The. Time.
Here’s why I’m asking this. The most obvious reason is that this little passage has been written about so, so much, and there is an ocean of material out there about how women have read this passage while remaining faithful to their vocations.
It’s all out there, and it’s all very googleable. It is really tiring to repeat oneself again and again about this verse, especially when this is so often done to get women to stop talking or to misdirect or redirect them into a tired debate.
The second thing is that if we don’t know you, it is almost impossible to tell the difference between someone who is asking about this verse to hurt and silence us and someone who is asking in good faith.
This passage is far from clear and unanswerable, and if you want to know how women “get out” of it, it’s not exactly a Houdini trap, and lots of women have written answers waiting for you all over the internet.
Try doing a little of your own work on this. It’s just hard for us to know how to approach you, and repeating oneself is very tiring.
