Learning materials and tips for those who want to learn Korean

~ an informative thread

DISCLAIMER: this is what worked for me when I started out. What worked for me might not work for you. It is up to you to find a method that suits you.
1. Before you do anything you must learn the alphabet

🌸Flashcards🌸

You can make your own or purchase some. I chose to buy mine to avoid any confusion.
These ones are my favorite because they show strike order and give examples.

!! Don’t focus on romanization too heavily
2.

🌸A Text book🌸

I have used a few different textbook options but this is the one I would reccomend to beginners. You must know the alphabet before you can use this

It has information, Worksheets, vocabulary, and answer keys.
3.

🌸Free worksheets and textbooks🌸

Not everyone can afford textbooks & I’m aware of that. Here’s another option that I use A LOT

Search ‘Free Korean ___ PDF’ (insert what you’re looking for)

You can save it to your drive and either print it or pull it up on your computer
4.

🌸Tutors & classes🌸

If you need 1 on 1 help http://Koreanclass101.com  offers a subscription where you get a tutor for 1 on 1 help and customized learning plans

They also offer FREE classes
if you can’t afford a subscription there are a few free class options on this site

🌸youtube🌸

Youtube has thousands of free classes from native speakers and from those who are fluent.

Remember that text book I mentioned earlier?
The author has a YouTube channel full of free content. He also offers exclusive content through a subscription!
6.

🌸Native Korean speaking friends🌸

Having a native korean speaking friend is beneficial. As i have mentioned in the past, the Korean language relies heavily on interpretation. This is a difficult thing for non native speakers. Having a native friend to help you is important
7.

🌸Dictionary🌸

Dictionaries come in handy for expanding your vocabulary. Use caution when studying a dictionary and make sure you understand the word context.
8.

🌸gridded paper OR 원고지🌸

Gridded paper or 원고지 for spacing practice
I prefer gridded paper because I can customize my spacing and size to fit what I’m doing and what size I’m practicing my penmanship in.

You can order a 원고지 notebook from amazon or print off a PDF
9.

🌸standard paper🌸

I have 2 notebooks
1. For messy practice/notes
And 1 for organized helpful notes

I start in notebook a & transfer the notes into notebook b
Grammar can get very confusing and messy so this helps.

A. B.

🌸pens & mildliners🌸

Part 1.

One thing I notice was how difficult it is to write in korean with my usual pens.

I finally found a set that works well for me. No smearing, no bleeding, and no running.

Having a good pen system will greatly impact your penmanship
Part 2.

The TTG pen is actually amazing. The ink isn’t runny and it won’t smear. I use it a lot for making corrections and taking notes.

The paper mate inkjoy is AMAZING but will bleed through paper if it’s not high quality.
It’s my all time favorite pen.
Part 3.

I love the gelly roll gray pens. I use them when I take notes in notebook b. The gray helps the notes look clean and fluid. I would recommend this to anyone who takes detail notes.

Mild liners are my 10/10 recommendation. They make the notes look crisp and clean.
Overall there are a lot of ways to start your journey. I hope this thread offered a little guidance
