the current moral panic about cancel culture has not significantly changed from its 2014ish incarnation, which would find some small and obvious ridiculous thing and paint that as the "embodiment" of something or other. and it obviously goes back further than that

its gotten to the point where media contratian types have chimed in with the chorus of conservative moral crusaders to try to paint any criticism of them, whatever it is, as some kind of stalinist show trial/denounciation. it is absolutely silly and if you fall for it, well well

at its worst this is an old right wing trick to assert that the people in society who don't have any power are actually secretly in control of everything and are working against the general good for nefarious aims. this is both dangerous but also hilariously stupid
