Next is the Republican theatre and temple complex on Monte San Nicolo by Pietravairano. It’s situated 400m up and the path is vertical - it killed me. Excavated from 2001-2012, conservation started in 2016 and is still underway. The only theatre w/ a comparable view is Pergamon.
If you want to learn more about the site, check out Gianluca Tagliamonte's "Le Sanctuaire San Nicolo à Pietravairano" here: https://www.jstor.org/stable/24751498

It includes photos before the consolidation work, which has been ambitious.
The view from Pergamon’s theatre for comparison.
And the theatre at Termessos, where you can explore at will though the wild boars will chase you.
The view at Taormina is quite amazing too. However, I’m still going with Pietravairano.
