I’ve had such a weird journey. I left hs for a 2 year church mission that I came home from after 3 months totally depressed. I went from landscaping, to air conditioning, to owning a small pool company, to working for my brother selling lightbulbs, to being a full time DP.
Working for my brother, I got to start filming before and after projects of buildings we’d replace with LED’s in random factories all over the country. From there I started doing real estate videos, weddings, small business commercials, whatever I could do for $.
After 6 months of that I met a director from AZ that would change my life. I started doing BTS for him on every shoot of his, editing rough cuts of videos & assisting on a TV show he DP’d.. he along with the director of the show introduced me to everyone they knew. That was my in
Within a few months he sold me his camera package with everything I could dream of for a price that was maybe 20% of what he could have sold for. That was my in. I started camera operating that show and eventually Dp’ing the following season.
From there I got to film a music video for YG, be on sets for KYLE videos, meet tons of creatives and what once was a dream became a reality.. this was all a product of working for free and busting my ass for years, and on top of that having a whole lot of help from family
I’m lucky enough now to have made friends in AZ that are extremely talented. We now get to make videos for artists / friends we believe in and watching their growth is inspiring. Moral of the story is, if you really want it. Work everyday and you’ll get it 100% no matter what.
People always ask me how I got to where I was, so I thought I’d make this thread. If there’s something you really want to do, you can. I always wanted to film but never once did I think that was an attainable thing for me to do until about 2 years ago. Believe in yourself.
