Why PSG should build the team around Marco Verratti and not Neymar.

A thread:
I’d first like to clarify that I don’t hate Neymar. He’s our best player and obviously a key figure in the squad.

What I’d like to say is that this thread will show why building the team for the future around Verratti makes more sense than building around Neymar.
Neymar Jr has shown time and time again that he’s a top 3 player on the planet. He rises to the big occasion and has the talent and ability to achieve excellence.
Marco Verratti is different. His work goes unnoticed unless viewers and fans pay close attention to him.

He contributes so much to PSG but because it’s not flashy like getting assists or scoring long shots, he’s usually overlooked and underrated.
Now, PSG for the last few years until recently, were a team very reliant on one player. First it was Zlatan and then Neymar.

They are amazing players, that’s without a doubt, but PSG a lot of times had to adapt their playing style when they were absent.
A lot of past games when we really needed him the most, Zlatan went missing. In past games Neymar was injured and missed important matches.

But in those two instances there was one player who continued to shine in their absence. No not Di Maria. It’s Marco Verratti.
In my opinion, Verratti’s best seasons were in 2016/17 and 2017/18, under the terrorist Unai E****. The 16/17 season perfectly showcased Verratti’s ability and importance in the team as we didn’t really have a set “Star Player”.

Verratti was the one who stepped up.
Neymar is a brilliant player but it’s not certain he’s fully focused on PSG. He’s hard to interpret.

So planning to build a team for the future around a top 3 player itw like Neymar who doesn’t even know where he’d be in the future, would be idiotic.
We can even basically say the same for Mbappe. He is not fully focused on our club. Yes he will be at the head for PSG’s future renaissance, but the head needs a spine, and that spine is Verratti.

Verratti has dedicated his career to this team and wants to keep going.
Neymar is expected to play well in every team that he plays for. But being the best doesn’t always necessarily mean being the most important.

We missed Verratti against Man City and against Liverpool. Our midfield looked lost and our attack, disjointed.
But look at how we played against Barcelona, Dortmund, Liverpool, Chelsea and even United, Arsenal and Madrid. There was one constant. Verratti.

He was pivotal in those games. When he’s in form, then PSG plays at their utmost best.
We were humiliated against United, but Verratti wasn’t bad. He did what he could. Against Madrid before he got sent off, he was exceptional.

The matches against Barcelona where we lost, he also dominated even if the rest of the team failed to perform.
He constantly plays at the highest level even if others around him fail to reach the same level he does. He’s a reliable player to develop a future team around.
In his two seasons under Emery he showed his importance to the team. In 16/17, even though his attacking output wasn’t the highest, his intelligence on the field was what drived PSG against a team like Barcelona
Marco has been partnered in midfield by aging players such as Alves, Motta, Matuidi, Cabaye and others like Rabiot, Stambouli and Draxler But he has never failed to maintain his consistency.

Added to that his love for the team and he’s the spine for our future team.
Neymar’s undoubtedly our best player if not the best player to play for us but the Italian metronome is the key component, though, and PSG must do everything they can to keep him in the French capital for as long as possible.
