Okay here's my thing. There is now a whole debate happening in the NBA about, whether to play or opt out in the name of social justice, with Kyrie and Lebron as figure heads but Maya Moore opted out last season despite being regarded as one of the greatest winners in WNBA history
And I just really think it's indicative of how much we overlook the Black women, like Maya, who are the first to do what men, like Kyrie are just starting to understand, or what men like Lebron are seemingly unwilling to do
In reality, there is no wrong time to stand up for what's right/sacrifice for the movement and opinions from non-Black people about how Black people should or shouldn't participate in an institution like pro sports are irrelevant
BUT as the media covers every NBA player, from Dwight Howard to Avery Bradley, who has an opinion and/or decides it's time to sit out remember that Black women in the WNBA did it first and are still leading the charge
