Yes, he’s right and what I’m about to say is not directly related but did come from this thread. A young Black footballer brought about a radical U-turn in support for our most vulnerable by advocating not for football but for the most vulnerable.... 1/who knows https://twitter.com/alexjosephmills/status/1273268880744595456
Yes, theatre is important, yes I want it to survive, yes I want to continue to work in it (sometimes, not today particularly) and for us all to have long and rich careers but I am astounded that we are using all our resources, networks, voice to talk about the sector and...
not about people, not about our audiences, not about those who are not our audiences yet or might never be. It is very real that society and our communities will not be as they were four months ago.
What good is our sector if there is no one alive or with the means to engage with it? I work in this sector not to make theatre but to stand for and with those communities - theatre is just the way I did it.
Many of us do/did but it feels like we’ve forgotten right now and we are not using our voice to stand up with and for society. I’m sorry but today I don’t care if our theatres never open, I care that everyone has a chance to live the fullest life possible.
