I can never imagine the evils and despair in War. Due to the sacrifice of my parents Generation. Sitting eagerly at the feet of Mum,Dad,Uncles and Aunts. I was struck by the lack of victorious language. But more the sense of relief, and a sense of sadness and loss.
Mum loosing her beloved brother compounding that loss. Which is why the loss of Dame Vera is such a tremendous blow. She more than most epitomised that spirit awash in our nation of the time. Her never ending duty to “Her Boys” was remarkable and they loved her for it.
I’m rather sad writing this thread feeling a little of that loss. But smiling like that little boy surrounded by the love that Generation gave me and the ultimate emptiness they’re no longer here.

Rest now Dame Vera Lynn ❤️
