A lot of Mexicans are really upset when folks are calling out Mexican Nationalism and Mexican Hegemony. You may be asking yourself why? The truth is, that the Mexican narrative has been central and dominant over ALL Latinx experiences in the U.S.

People aren’t just upset about flags or representation. They are upset over that fact that the Mexican government & media (which many of us know is corrupt) has worked diligently to separate and discriminate against Central Americans, Black & Indigenous Latinx People.

We aren’t being divise, we are tired of the misrepresentation, we are tired of my community upholding a nationalistic mindset that erases the experiences of those we aren’t represented in the flag we proudly wave. We are tired of the RACISM that Mexicans perpetuate onto others!

I am Mexican-American, I was born in the United States and currently live in Mexico. My grandparents don’t speak Spanish a lot of older folks from where I’m from don’t either. It astounds me when I tell me Latinx friends that my community till this day is discriminated

against. My own Mexican people have judged my family for not knowing Spanish and called us “inditos”. People here in Mexico and in the U.S. are so racist towards Central Americans and Black people and it’s sick. But don’t worry I got some examples for y’all.

I’ve seen people posting stuff like this. A good portion of my Mexican people have been divisive with what’s going. I’m glad that more people are protesting against ICE but have realized that their reason is solely because they don’t want black folks have all the “attention”

In 2018 the Xenofobia that people were posting on FB against Central Americans was very racist and disturbing. I want to point out that the Mexican media played a huge role in fueling the racism against Central Americans but many Mexicans used this as an excuse to be racist.

The Mexican Media and the Mexican people don’t give a fuck about indigenous people. And when the migrants started coming from Central American now they wanna talk about us???? They don’t care about us and wanted to pinpoint these 2 issues against eachother. Like we had to pick 1.

The MEXICAN GOVERNMENT works with ICE and also has their own detention centers where they have Central Americans in INHUMANE living conditions! Fuck ICE, but also fuck the Mexican government for continuing to do the same shit.

Some of our community members don’t have access to this information, and for us that do, it’s our responsibility to engage these conversations into our families. Anti-blackness & Xenofobia in Mexican communities is a real thing.

The next time you wave our flag. The next time you uphold Mexican Nationalism think about the harm your doing to those that flag and nationalistic mindset has hurt and continues to oppress.

We need to acknowledge and take accountability for the truth people are speaking. We are no different from the United States. Our parents fled Mexico for the exact same reasons; corruption. Why are we still waving a flag for a country that continues to perpetuate injustices?
