a lot of sri lankans love to mention the peace on the island after ‘09 so, let’s talk about genocide post-may 2009, post-LTTE.
not only were eelam tamils subjected to months of gruesome violence up until may 2009, many who managed to survive were forced into nazi-style concentration camps (about 300,000 innocent tamil civilians), one of camps being manik farm.
manik farm held about 160,000 tamils who fled from mullivaikkal. it was basically a prison for men, women and children, surrounded by barbed + razor wire fences & high military security both outside and inside
the camp had rows of small rooms (about the size of a shed) with inadequate basic necessities like water and sanitization. each room consisted of wooden or aluminum seats and held several families.
they had to stand in lines for up to 3 hours just to get water and rations - 1kg of milk, 1 bottle of water, and 2 bars of soap for their family. “i have been sick and we do not have enough to eat. they won& #39;t let me leave to go to a hospital"
many of the recounts from manik farm have been anonymous, "people are scared to tell anyone of the problems we are facing. but it is a prison here. there are not enough health facilities for the problems in the camp and we don& #39;t have enough water."
about 1400 people died each week in these camps, which existed for 3.5 years. 3 and a half years of inhumane treatment.
