Today I celebrate 8 years as an entrepreneur with my tech company @_MakeMusicCount ....here are some pivotal moments and lessons i learned..a thread
The only reason we’ve made it this far is because of genuine relationship building
First..be genuine..some of the partnerships and contracts I’ve secured only happened because clients liked me and could tell that i just wanted to help kids learn
To put in in perspective...I’m teaching kids math by playing the piano, and say not only will they learn math but they’ll do it even if they’ve never seen a piano before...that’s a hard sell...but because i played the piano and also struggled in math that made people believe me
Next lesson: use your personal story..it’s important to show you have a pers al connection to the problem you want to solve..tug at the heart strings (without exaggerating because everyone can tell when you lie)
I have lots of thoughts as i think over the past 8 years of Make Music Count...learned a lot about different industries..education, tech, EdTech, Music industry, and healthcare..there’s so many places we can be helpful
I’m sensitive so this next lesson was big for me....don’t take it personal when you’re friends don’t support you...it’s not personal, they just aren’t your customer
Lots of times entrepreneurs confuse support with purchasing..support is “im rooting for you” “keep going” “i love what you’re doing” but that doesn’t make them a customer...i sell an app that teaches 3rd - 12th graders math..my friends don’t have kids that old
