Hello everyone. I’m back after receiving a Twitter lock of almost a week. It’s egregious to me that I received a slap on the wrist, but I had to concede defeat in the end. I agreed to remove the tweet in which I posted a racist comment by Boris Johnson from his book 72 Virgins.
Johnson, it seems, can be racist with impunity. His quotes about ‘letter boxes’ & ‘watermelon smiles’ continue to bob around Twitter like stubborn floaters that won’t flush away. He gets away with being overtly racist, because this platform disallows writing about his comments.
We can’t call out racism by highlighting what he, or other people, have said as doing so risks censure. Oh well. It’s a lesson learned. Perhaps a photo of an incendiary passage will bypass the algorithms looking for offensive words in future?
I’d sincerely like to thank all those people who tweeted in my defence. It was very kind of you to do so and warms my heart. Normal service will now be resumed...
