BREAKING: Christopher Columbus statue at San Francisco's Coit Tower taken down early this morning.

This is ahead of a planned protest that planned to throw it into the bay.
All art in The City is under jurisdiction of the SF Arts Commission, which will decide what comes next.

The following statement is from Supervisor @AaronPeskin, who represents the area:
The statue was also on SF Rec and Park property.

This statement in the stature is from @RecParkSF General Manager Phil Ginsburg:

"Coit Tower is an emblem of the San Francisco skyline, beloved by visitors for its panoramic views.

Racism has no place in that view, or in ours."
