Requests usually get granted. Channel your inner Karen. Usually, the nursing staff would rather just swap someone out than deal with a complaint to management.

The charge nurse also usually logs the reasons for requested switches. If someone gets a lot of requested switches, management takes a closer look and has a talk with the particular nurse.

If you’re not comfortable being that confrontational, it’s totally fine to ask a family member or close friend to ask on your behalf.

Sometimes that actually works better, especially if you’re marginalized in ways that impact whether you get taken seriously.
