Seems like a good day to call out some of Paul McCartney's lesser-knowns for a day in the sun. Of course, I'll play "The Mess" any day, it's that good. Still learning the dance moves of the woman in the blue/gray dress for "The Mess" reenactments
A lovely little doodle, "Summer of '59" was the b-side to "Jenny Wren" in 2005. Concise with almost no frills. Just before the summer of '59 Paul turned 17, you know what I mean

The McCartney-McManus partnership was so good, and for both of them. "Twenty Fine Fingers" didn't make any of their albums, but this demo may be my favorite recording from those joint sessions. What fervor!
Sticking w/McCartney-Costello, enjoy the original take of "Lovers That Never Were," gutsy & superior to the Off The Ground version. Elvis called it one of the great vocal performances of Paul's solo career. "He’s singing a ballad in the voice of I’m Down"
"Take It Away" was sort of a hit single (10 in US, 15 in UK) in 1982, but I feel like it's faded into obscurity. I was 8 then, and it was my first favorite Paul song. Great video w/Ringo & George Martin & the Hofner. A toe-tapper you can sing along to!
Along with "Oh Woman, Oh Why," as mentioned just a tweet ago, I truly love the fellow RAM outtake (and Cold Cut outtake) "A Love For You". A banger!
Meanwhile, I'm at the "have a few beers and listen to the original double album version of Red Rose Speedway" part of the night. And I want to add "Get On The Right Thing" to this discussion. Is this Linda's greatest backup vocal performance? I think so!
