I am emotions right now. I’ll share when I sort through my thoughts. But it’s a WIN though. Don’t even trip.

Ight so boom. 3 weeks ago my brother, Nev, created the “Minnesota Memo”. Virtually it’s a email to be sent to your execs to urge them to 1) acknowledge what is going on in the media about police brutality 2) Steps they can take today to make a change at your workplace.

I took the format, added my own zest to It and sent It off. Didn’t warn my mentor, my supervisor or my principal. I sent It directly to the CEO/Founder & COO of my entire school network. I was shook can’t even front for reasons can’t disclose right now. But I sent It.

Let me clear, the email wasn’t a nice one. Well, It would come off aggressive if you were clueless to what was going on in the news & coming from mid level employee on the school level. So I’m sure they were taken back by what was said.

So 5 mins later, my mentor/supervisor call me. I’m shook now cause I’m not entirely sure what’s bout to be said. He comes on the phone and says “yo I’m proud of you, what you said needed be said, I’m not sure if will meet all the demands but they are gonna do some if not most.

I get off the phone then my principal calls me. Really have no clue what her stance is on these matters. And she says “ Yo I got your back, Imma do all in my power to get these demands met”

Then my CEO responds to my email. And says we want you to consult us on all visuals and messaging to our families pertaining to those most recent acts of police brutality. I’m like sure, bet. Say less.

We have a conversation & we get on a call and I stress the importance of this being a black issue and it’s important that the families know the organization understand It is a black issue. They like cool cool, we got It.

I go to sleep wake up they send out a message to our entire network what felt like a sincere message and ended the email with “ #JusticeForAll”, now I’m livid cause I spent a significant amount of time explaining to them this is not an everybody issue. . .Another spicy email sent.

Shit giving me chills right now cause I’m really getting buck with my CEO & he is being very understanding because he knows this can turn very sour quickly because another school network is in hot water right now.

So he retracts the statement and ends the new messaging with “ #BlackLivesMatter “. Imma be real I don’t understand what is the issue with some YT people and saying those words but I feel as though they gonna get blackballed for saying It. Either way, I’m at ease for the moment.

So the following week, they leaned on me and my team to run town halls for the staff, students and families about systematic racism and explaining all the different ways you start behind the finish line. Several emotional moments with those town halls.

So after the successes of the town halls, the following week they grant all employees “8 hrs of mental health PTO”

Personally I thought this was crumbes but my staff was happy about It. I didn’t wanna he the Debbie downer at the moment.

Anyways, that whole 8 hrs stuff ain’t sit right with me. So I send another spicy email about giving the entire network off for Juneteenth.

The response I got summed up “We will look into this”

I’m like oh shit they tired of me now, I’m must be waalin now.

So today I’m at Trader Joe’s & I get a Group FaceTime on my personal cell from some of my teachers. Against my better judgment I answered lol teachers be waalin sometimes lmao.

They come on the phone and they like yo you seen the latest message from the principal? , I’m like nah wassup ?

They like omg thank you for advocating for us, they giving the whole network Juneteenth off and shouted you out for advocating for the whole staff.

Now, I wasn’t tearing up but mans eyes were sweating. True ting. Just goes to show what is happening right now is undeniable and you gotta apply some pressure for things to change. We all should be comfortable at work.

If your job hasn’t acknowledged what’s been going on and you feel like something should be done. Don’t trip, now is the time to say something.
