What's right is right ....

Example

I few years ago we were alerted in the middle of the night of a woman having an asthma attack. You think to yourself ok routine đŸ’© she's probably out of albuterol we will get there give her a breathing treatment it will perk her up
and the ambulance would transport. We jump on the pumper (fire engine) and leave the station. Arrive on the scene 3 guys jump off the pumper grab our medical stuff and head to the porch... the 4th guy remained on the pumper (this 4th guy at the time had the
most medical training of all of us at the time) we enter the home and the husband is frantic and directed us to the bedroom. We see his 250+ lb wife unresponsive wedged between the bed and the wall not breathing (weight included in this because i want you to
Understand that trying to maneuver a person of this size in a cramped bedroom that's wedged between a bed ain't easy) we all tried to grab her husband included and get her back on the bed unto the floor so we can intubate and perform chest compressions.
At this point we're all looking for the most qualified medic at this point who is still sitting on the pumper ...i told one coworker to flash the porch lights to get his attention that he is needed badly ... he runs off to do that while the other is trying to bag
Our patient and call him on the radio. The senior medic on the pumper never sees the porch light flashing or hears the radio because HE'S ASLEEP! The ambulance finally arrives and to assist us. We get her loaded on the stretcher and unto to the ambulance. At this point I'm
beyond furious. My out of rank lieutenant is trying to calm me down. I go completely off on the senior medic for his negligence. Told him he was worthless as i felt like this woman may have had a better chance of surviving if his ass wasn't sleeping
I couldn't wait until the morning to file a complaint ON MY COWORKER ... that morning at 6 am the out of rank lieutenant asked me to calm down and think it through trying to give me a brotherhood- solidarity we all in this together and one day you may screw up
Speech....

A real brother holds a brother accountable....a real friend holds a friend accountable

There is no solidarity and brotherhood when it comes to people lives. I don't give a damn who you are... because that could've been your mother or father
Wedged between that bed dying.

I filed the complaint and my coworker got suspended after the investigation. I don't regret it and there can't be a culture of retaliation within a department in the name of "brotherhood" & "solidarity"

I still expect you to have my back
and i still will have yours but i can't condone that behavior and it shouldn't go unchecked. I said that to say calling into work when your fellow coworker is charged with a crime says to me there is a culture where accountability is surely lacking.... that's not brotherhood
That's bullshit. Those taxpayers expect you to perform your duties regardless of how you feel. Those taxpayers expect you to be there when they call. That's what you are paid to do and your personal beliefs don't matter. If you don't want to perform your civil
duties then quit. This ain't a budget thing, benefits or safety thing ... this was deemed a crime and if you are calling in and not answering calls you are saying my civil duties don't matter and what i do is above reproach.... YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!
