Why Sia is NOT racist: a necessary thread
Sia has been accused of blackface because a photo was spread without context. She painted herself into the backdrop, as a pre-cursor to the wig. So it was just body paint, not her portraying herself as someone from another race.
‘I Am Not Your Negro’ is the name of a movie about racism and Sia simply meant that you shouldn’t wait around to go and see it; she was promoting it to her fans in order to educate her fans on the history and struggles of black people
In 2012 Sia responded to a fan who had the n word in his/her username. Since Twitter is completely different nowadays, it seems like she typed out the full word. But as you can see in the screenshot below, she just responded to her fan that was having a hard time.
She has been supporting the BLM movement and has donated to multiple organisations, such as the Bail Fund, helping protestors unjustly arrested in the recent protests.
She acknowledges her privilege and continuously learns about the subject.
She even adopted two black sons last year. They were both aging out of the foster care system.
