Reincarnation is the belief that one can be reborn after death. It is held strongly by some religions like Hinduism and Buddhism and form the core of their beliefs unlike the Abrahamic religions that hold the belief of the afterlife.

In Hinduism/Buddhism, a person reincarnates in other to achieve a perfect person void of karmic particles by learning something new in the next life and being good. It is only when this is achieved that one can become unified with the 'Universal soul' or achieve 'Nirvana'.

Here, amongst Ndi Igbo, reincarnation, a part of its cosmology is still believed despite the heavy presence of Christianity. It is believed that family members reincarnate back into their families. My mom believes I am a reincarnate of her granny who died months before my birth.
