Oh yes this is going to be a productive conversation https://twitter.com/rosiebarton/status/1273619062975799297
We could have had a productive conversation about this. Because while Jagmeet Singh, the Sikh man who himself has exoerienced racism was understandably upset, Jagmeet Singh the experienced politician and party leader should know you’re not allowed call someone a racist in the HoC
Is it fair? Does it matter? You work with what you have. And now the story isn’t “overdue reforms to the RCMP won’t even be debated” but rather “senior politician broke a rule”
The fact that we have some *federal legislators* who take “racist” to mean “exhibits behaviours that disproportionately result in poor outcomes for people of certain racial backgrounds” and others who take it to mean “someone who doesn’t like everyone” tells me we have work to do
Is it fair that legislators in the former category need to clearly define terms that, in 2020, everyone in a position of power should understand? Again, does it matter? You *know* that the Bloc’s position is “racism is bad and it sure doesn’t describe anything we have ever done”.
