As a former Opta football analyst, I have a few thoughts on the PB scores and dividend payouts last night. THREAD
#footballindex
1. Opta data collection is NOT tailored for FI - the data goes to all manner of stakeholders, from betting companies, to broadcasters, to governing bodies, to individual clubs, etc. FI is a small fish in a big pond in terms of usage of Opta data.

2. As a result, you can’t expect Opta to produce data for FI that will meet its exact needs. The idea that data changes in favour of accuracy are ‘fuck ups’ is misconstrued.
4. It is impossible to ever produce analysis of a football game that is entirely and objectively correct - this is due to the impossibility of objectively defining the events of a football game, with all of its nuances.
5. Therefore, FI gets what it pays for - if you think FI can go wading in to enforce changes to data, you are deluded. I am in favour of dividends being paid later to allow for the rare occasion in which data would be updated hours after a game.
3. Our remit was to produce the most accurate data possible - that might not suit your agenda as a FI trader with certain holds. Sometimes, changes after matches are enforced by higher powers such as the leagues (even when they are not correct by Opta standards).
6. If anyone has any questions don’t hesitate to ask. I will answer within my bounds as a former lowly data collector. #footballindex
