A thread of sexist experiences I had while trying Stand Up Comedy
Got off stage after a decent set. A man was hosting. He says "the only woman on tonight! As if i wasnt already intimidated!"
"If only Br**s jokes were as good as her tits, she'd be famous."

This was said at a roast, about a talented female comic. I mean, it was delivered funny. I know the context of a roast obviously. I just never forgot that shit. What message does that send?
"Feminists are emotional angry women"
"Stop playing victim, feminazi"
At a comedy competition with a cash prize. Sitting next to a male comedian also performing that night.

He tugs on my pump wire.

YES, HE TUGS ON MY PUMP WIRE, AND SAYS,

Hey sophie if i pull this thing off that means you have to go home right?

I stared this fuck in the eyes
And said "bitch im twice your weight."

You should have seen him squirm. He tried to tell me it was inappropriate for me to say that, because he cant say something like that to me

Bitch you started with biological warfare
A comedian who ran 4/5 open mics continuously tried to start conversations (that he would dominately lead) would often say that racism doesnt exist, that abortion is murder... he sat me down and tried to tell me i need jesus.
Comedians like the ones who said each of these comments are praised for their ability to organize shows, fill seats, get laughs.

They literally don't care about whatever else is going on until they decide its bad enough to take seriously.

One literally attempted murder.
Comedians would come to me and warn me not to stay around one guy in particular. Because he was a known rapist. But apparently the comedy scene doesnt care.
People would support me when i would try to bring up issues women have been facing. I posted a thread in the comedians group asking women whats been going on.

Nobody wanted to say anything. The only people who said anything just said "im busy lol" even though i knew theres more
Only the mad male comics would. Trying to say that it isnt a sexism issue, its just a coincidence.

Allegedly this lead to important conversations in the scene. I never heard them, ive barely seen outcomes from those efforts.
One male comic speaks up for the women.

One of the mad comics decides to tell me, privately, that he has a record of sexual harassment. At least in one recorded case.

He said "have fun with Mr. Handsy"
Ill think of more 🙄
