The latest EUSS monthly stats are out, and they are also the last ones in this format! 🚨 The Home Office will no longer report monthly on applications by nationality. We've called for more detail and transparency in reporting - and we're getting less instead. Thread. 🔽 <1/8>
The decision to stop monthly reporting by nationality is very troubling. These figures show how little we know about the EUSS performance: e.g. there were 179k applications from Bulgarians, whose population is estimated at around 101k. What does it mean? Two things. <2/8>
Today's figures show just how much the EUSS slowed down in the last quarter. Monthly applications still below 100k. And yet, the processing is also slow and caseworkers made no significant dent in the backlog of nearly 300k unprocessed cases. <5/8>
How about status granted? That's another big concern, whether applicants get the right status. The rate of settled grants is down: not good. The rate of pre-settled is also down: even worse. Why? <6/8>
There was a spike in withdrawn, void and invalid applications. In April 1 in 20 application concluded did not result in grant of status, now 1 in 13. There were also 200 more refusals. Nobody was refused on eligibility grounds till Brexit day, but 900 were refused since. <7/8>
In a nutshell, we have more questions about the EUSS and less transparency than before. Why not make the scheme safe: be transparent with data and remove the hard application deadline? This would build trust overnight. <8/8>
