Dune 2 by Westwood Studios is the grandfather of RTS games. If you love C&C, you owe your life to Dune 2 & should kiss its feet!
Set on the planet Arrakis, you build bases and units, funded by money made from collecting the Spice, which litters the landscape.

Dune 2 starts when you choose one of three factions. You must pick either:
House Atreides - the snivelling goody toe shoes
House Ordos - the creepy green ones
House Harkonnen - ALL HAIL HOUSE HARKONNEN AND ITS IMPERIOUS WAR MACHINE!! Ahem... Excuse me.

As well as a fantastic RTS game, there are some lovely touches. The way units fidget & talk back is common now, but oozed life at the time.
Also, being Dune’s Arrakis, you must watch for tremours indicating a huge sand worm is about to eat up your harvester! Gulp

All the RTS tropes you know and love began here.
For example, Dune 2 , of course, gave birth to the tank rush; defending your base whilst you create a huge army and attack en mass. The sight of a hundred Devastator tanks still makes me tingle.

Just look at this box art... JUST LOOK AT IT!
I rest my case.
Best of all, you can play a completely faithful & updated version on modern OSs. Now you can select more than one unit at once. Imagine that!
