Hi @RachaelMaskell @MattHancock @JonAshworth @NHSBSA_LSF @theRCN

The details of the NHS Learning Support Fund eligibility have at last been released.

Despite being on a qualifying course (2nd yr Adult Nursing @UniOfYork) I find myself ineligible because of an odd loophole.

The criteria for LSF have been published and ADDITIONALLY requires Student Loans eligibility.

If I were starting my course this September, I’d be eligible for both Student Loan and LSF.

I started my course before I had reached Settled status, so don’t qualify for Student Loan (you must qualify on first day of first year to get it, ever. That requires Settlement).

I now have Settled status in the UK, but because my Nursing degree is already in progress, I find myself excluded from LSF despite the earlier Government announcement.

I am self-funding my studies, with all the financial hardship that entails; aside from living costs & fees, because I don’t get a Student Loan I also am not reimbursed for placement expenses like other Nursing students are.

I’ve been a Health Care Assistant in the NHS since 2009 (inc. in COVID-19 areas at the start of the crisis) and I am keenly aware of the qualified nurse shortage. I wanted to crack on with training, not delay.

When it was announced, the LSF sounded like it was going to be of material help to me.

Instead now it feels like a kick in the teeth.

I love being a student nurse & look forward to making a lasting contribution to the NHS. Financially it is really hard for me. LSF would have been so helpful.
Do you agree this is unfair and needs to be corrected so that LSF applies to all nursing degree students as promised?
