I can recall attending an intense Canadian University Press conference in Valleyfield, Quebec in the early 1990s where the matter of #systemicracism & the need for more diverse representation w/in #CDNmedia was the hot topic.That was nearly 30yrs. ago.This is an old conversation.

What's astonishing is how little progress has been made when it comes to #BIPOC occupying senior leadership & decision-making positions in #CDNMedia...how little power has shifted despite all the training & awareness. We thought we'd be the generation to change everything.

The mistake we made in the 1990s in trying to change #CDNMedia was focusing too much of our energy on "raising awareness" about #systemicracism and trying to "change minds". The truth is... it was always about power. And power only responds to pressure.
