My very strong advice to all parents, teachers and pupils campaigning for a return to full time education is to stay focussed. Stay away from party politics and keep the demands and questions clear. Thread follows....
On Sunday the Education Secretary confirmed part time schools were likely for 12 months. And Councils had told parents this was all that could be achieved. But parents had started to express their anger and policy started to shift.
As soon as the First Minster instructs the Education Secretary to make that happen, and allocates a budget to support the aim, national and local officials can move into action. But that needs to start next week, not in a few weeks time.
So please keep writing to the First Minister, Education Secretary, all of your local MSPs - including Regional, and your Councillors. Be clear and persistent. This can change.
On Monday the First Minister - for the first time - led on education and ruled out 12 months of part time learning. On Tuesday she committed to a hope that full time might be possible by August. Yesterday she went further and promised money. This is real progress.
However, if full time education across Scotland is to be a real option for August, the decision to start planning for that cannot wait for August. It will be too late to recruit staff and volunteers, order equipment and find safe extra allocations.
This must not be allowed to drift into July. A National plan, clear instructions, resources and local leadership are all needed right now to deliver this. And the opposition parties should support it when it happens. Our kids - and their parents - need and deserve this.
So we need a decision now. From the top. Plan A must be full time education from 11 August. Plan B can be the current mixed collection of local plans should there be a local or national health emergency that demands further restrictions.
There is evidence that some Councils are already secretly preparing to change their plans when they get the signal. But Council Leaders and Education (etc) Convenors should do that openly - with Committee meetings early next week to set targets and authorise spending.
