Dear Friends.. how many of you are aware of the Assamese-Chinese. Its an important and dark chapter hidden from most Indians and I am writing a bit of that in this thread.
The British had brought Chinese workers from China-mostly for works in the tea gardens and with time they
had fully assimilated in the Assamese society..They mostly follow Buddhism and are Assamese in every way. They had made Assam/India their home, and were Assamese-Indian in every way. However everything changed post the 1962 war.
They were seen as untrustworthy by many, and one fine day post 1962 war-they were put on a train and were transported to a Prison Camp in Rajasthan. After some time the Government of India deported the families back to China in a few batches. In the process many Indian wives also
accompanied their husbands to China with their children. Most of them did not get to meet their deported family members ever again. The British had also brought Chinese artisans, tea growers and tea makers, and slowly they adjusted to the life here and even forgot the Chinese
language over the years. They had Chinese Club, Chinese school, Chinese restaurants and shoe shops, and the population lived in relative peace and comfort, and probably They wouldn’t have imagined what fate had in store for them. Some however remained here, and few even runs
Chinese restaurants here.
