i think an underlying toxic trait is toxic positivity. like i’m sorry, but i can’t be happy 24/7 and i can’t expect you do be happy 24/7. just saying “you’ll get over it” and “stop being negative” or “good vibes only” is shitty. it makes me feel shitty. makes you feel shitty.
i have admittedly fallen into this trap i suppose, especially when i didn’t know what to say to friends who were having shitty days. but now i know, well know a bit better on how to handle this.
so all emotions are valid? it’s normal to feel shitty? but i guess we have to balance hope and validation of your own feelings, instead of forcing a smile. cause that leads to bigger problems i find.
